Description
This block of Manila between 38th and 40th continues to explode with trash, tents, bicycles in various states of disrepair, illegal dumping, and illegal storage.
There are at least 15 people that I have identified who live here, and a number of other people who pass through the encampment daily. Social distancing is not practiced in this growing encampment, no masks are being worn by these unhoused people, there are no hand washing stations or public toilets here, and there are no health or sanitation services currently being offered. This is a very concerning development, not only for the people who are living on this block unhoused but for people who are trying to maintain social distancing, and keep our neighborhood safe from covid, as well as crime.
Please consider the impact that allowing this encampment to grow daily is having on the health and safety of all people in this neighborhood, not only the people who have the ability and privilege to post on 311 or who can shelter in their own homes.

It is not good for one's well being/mental health to be constantly subjected to piles of garbage, filth, graffiti, drug dealing, homeless, in your neighborhood. When your voices are ignored in the halls of power, then you have no alternative than to sue.
Use people power, get as many of your neighbors involved. Collect evidence, such as complaint logs, ask for the incident number when you call the non-emergency line, take videos, photos. Send a formal complaint via a FedEx envelope to CM McElhaney, to Mayor Schaff, and the Department of Race and Equity.

Thank you very much, John.
I really appreciate these resources. We have started a small group that includes people who are either living on or near the 38th and Manila intersection. I will share your helpful comment directly with our group.
Question for you, do you work with any one directly at NLC?
Thank you!
